PowerPoint Questions |

Will the features work in PowerPoint 365? |
Yes I was using Office 365 PowerPoint during the webinar. |
If you see something in the new "Design Ideas" sections that you like, to create a whole presentation using it instead of just a slide, could you save it as a style and apply to the whole presentation? |
Yes |
What is the difference between the slide view and reading view? |
The Slide Sorter view in PowerPoint lets you view and sort the presentation slides. To switch to Slide Sorter view, click the “Slide Sorter” button in the “Presentation Views” button group in the Status Bar or selecting the slider sorter on the View tab of the Ribbon. You use Slide Sorter view to reorganize, insert, delete and copy the presentation slides. PowerPoint Reading View lets you view a presentation as if it is shown in “Slide Show View,” but within the application window versus full screen. The options you have for advancing through this view are almost identical to the options you have when viewing the presentation in Slide Show View. |
If you wanted to use multiple transitions, what would you recommend to be the maximum different transitions to use in one PP? Or would you just use one? |
That is a personal decision. Too many tends to be irritating to your audience. I only use the fade transition. |
Any thoughts re Microsoft Sway -- a multimedia PPT replacement? |
Sway is a newer and hipper app (compared to PowerPoint) that is designed for online and on-demand presentation. It gives users pre-designed backgrounds, transitions, and images. PowerPoint is the classic Microsoft application that is great for live or in-person presentations. I have played with it a bit and it does live up to it’s reputation. I have lived in PowerPoint for so long that I don’t, at the present time, see a reason to change. When To Use Sway Sway is good for presentations that rely more on images and style. Sway is especially good if you're not that creative. It provides a ton of pre-designed backgrounds and images. Since Sway is an online application, you can easily drag images, charts, or other content from online. The downside to using Sway is that you can't create in-app charts or graphs. So if you plan to make a presentation with all charts and numbers, it's best to steer clear of Sway. Since it's an online application, however, you can easily just send somebody the link to your presentation. Here's a screenshot of the Sway interface. When to Use PowerPoint There are two versions of PowerPoint. One is PowerPoint Online and the other is the PowerPoint Desktop App. Both types of PowerPoint give you more freedom in choosing the design of your presentation. You have the option to choose from pre-designed backgrounds, but you can also edit and change around colors or images. There is also something called PowerPoint Designer, which actually helps you format your picture to fit an appropriate background. In PowerPoint, you can also easily create in-app charts and graphs. The PowerPoint Desktop App is available for offline usage, so this would be great if you're on your computer without access to the internet. And while you can’t send a web link to your PowerPoint Desktop App-version for others to view like you can in PowerPoint Online, you can always send it either as an attachment to your peers via email OR if it’s saved to your OneDrive for Business or SharePoint Team Site, then you can send that link to others! Here's a screenshot of the PowerPoint interface. Neither Sway nor PowerPoint is superior to the other. They both have their strengths and weaknesses. Whatever the presentation is, you now have two options to choose from. |
For a suggestion - I'd love a webinar on PowerPivot. |
My partner, Ward Blatch, will be doing an overview of PowerPivot and BI Desktop in September. To really learn PowerPivot you will need one of our longer paid webinars available here. |

For QBO and QBOA, can you confirm where the data is stored? Is it stored in Canada? The rumour is that it is stored in the US, which is an issue for privacy and Cdn regulations. |
QuickBooks Online data is first stored in the US, and backed up to a second server centre in Alberta. This format is CRA complaint. |
