Sage 50 and Quickbooks are designed to help small businesses manage their accounting. These products are designed for business owners that are not accountants, so they may generate invoices, payments and financial statements without the need to understand the debits and credits. These products are not designed for accountants doing client write-up or for larger accounting departments needing control and audit trails for external audit. In this three part series we’ll show you how Adagio can make your practice or department more efficient and improve client/user (and auditor) satisfaction.
The Adagio Financial Reporter is the reporting heart of Adagio Ledger. The report writer allows you to create virtually any report demanded of you for any stakeholder in the organization. Account and department ranges allow additions to the chart of accounts without requiring complicated adjustments to the financial statement layout. Any range of accounts and departments can be summarized into a single cell on the statement, for any fiscal period range. And, from that number, you can drill all the way to the balanced journal entry of a single transaction to isolate and validate the numbers on the statement.

If you use precision as displayed and then add another decimal place is the remainder of the decimal lost and it will just be 0's. |
If the cell value is a formula it will show the additional decimal place, otherwise it will display a 0. |
What if you have something you want to display as 2 decimals, but actually have more than 2 decimals of information? |
With Precision as Displayed on it will automatically round the number to two decimals. |
Why do you hate the Grid Lines? |
Great question. I prefer to use borders to highlight the working cells in a workbook. |
Do templates work for Word as well? |
They certainly do. Check out this link. |
When I open a new blank workbook I get the 3 tab pages but the page that I am on does not have any gridlines, etc. It is all a big gray area. I must have an incorrect setting/default workbook. Can you please advise? |
Here’s two things to try.
If that doesn't help:

I am wondering what is the difference between MC Excel Worksheet and MC Excel 97-2003 Worksheet? |
They use different file formats. Excel 2007, 2010, 2013 and 2016 use the .xlsx format. The 97-2003 versions of Excel use the old .xls format. For additional information check out this link. |
If we want entire office to have same default template, do we customize on one computer and copy to others? Or can the template go on a server? |
Either or. |
Alan's financial statement is great. Will we get a copy to use as a template? |
Yes |
How do I get brackets when I am using accounting format. Everything displays with a "-" sign instead of brackets. |
This is a windows issue. Check out the instructions this blog. |
Will Alan's notes include the details on the "why" to create/save the book and sheet templates? I didn't quite understand what he said. |
Yes they will. |
Adagio Questions |
Answers |
Can Adagio be used in a manufacturing setting? I don't see anything on the website that addresses manufacturing contexts. |
Yes and no. Adagio's Inventory module supports Bills of Material and costing up to 6 decimal places. MRP reports need to be built using one of the custom reporting tools. Continuous process manufacturing is not supported. I'd suggest a look if you are doing more "assembly" rather than manufacturing, and if you are currently trying to manage this process with Sage 50 or QuickBooks. It does not compete with specific manufacturing solutions such as Syspro. |
Does Adagio have a demonstration version of their software, perhaps allowing the user to set up a dummy company or something like that? Also wondering what point of sale and inventory systems is supported by Adagio. Is payroll integrated into the software? If so, is it a Canadian version? |
Yes. Someone will be in touch with you. POS is a vertical and is different depending on what is being sold (think restaurant vs hardware store). We have 3rd party integrations for this need. We believe Payroll is best handled externally. PayDirt Payroll is completely integrated with Adagio and feeds the general ledger, bank reconciliation and job costing to prevent duplicate entry. |
Can Adagio financial reporter give data that begins in one fiscal period and ends in another one - useful for analytics? |
Yes. Although to be clear, the financial reporter is fiscal period based. You cannot produce a statement from the middle of one fiscal period to another. You can easily produce statements that span fiscal years. |
Does this product work with other Accounting Software? |
The Adagio Financial Reporter will also read data from Sage 50. |
Can group print to PDF? |
Yes. |
Are documents stored in software or just links to the documents for viewing? |
Adagio stores indirect links to the documents, so they can be backed up and move independent of the accounting data. Document images are much less volatile than the accounting transactions they are attached to. |
We actually have some electronic and other docs paper - that was not a poll question choice. |
Adagio automatically creates a Folder with the vendor's name and number and stores the invoices in that Folder. We wanted people to be able to find a document using just Windows Explorer if necessary. |
